In late 2017, the City of La Crosse asked Weigent-Hogan neighbors to prioritize spending of $375,000 in city infrastructure funds. The Weigent-Hogan Neighborhood Association was tasked with gathering project ideas, helping neighbors discuss those ideas, and finally conducting a vote to find the priorities.
The process took a few months and WHNA held the vote in May.
These are the top four projects WHNA members chose:
A Pedestrian Crosswalk & Rapid Flashing Beacon on State Road
Replacing the Playground Structure in Weigent Park
Replacing and Adding Boulevard Trees.
A Bike Rack in Weigent Park
Our plan for the beginning was to prioritize and work down the list until the $375,000 was spent. Now we work with the City Planning Department, the City Parks Department, and the State Department of Transportation to make these priorities a reality.
I wanted to thank each and every Weigent-Hogan neighbor who sent in an idea online, attended a discussion, polled other neighbors, and took the time to vote. I also want to thank the WHNA volunteers who took the time to help make this process work so smoothly.
